Air condition in Moscow gets worse

The air condition in Moscow has worsened.

On Monday morning, the head of the State Environment Protection Enterprise MosEcoMonitoring Nikolai Fursov told RIA Novosti that twelve automated air pollution control stations situated in the city had registered an increased carbon monoxide proportion in the air.

The carbon monoxide proportion in different city districts makes one or two admissible concentration limits /ACL/. The situation is aggravating because of an increasing level of unburned substances left from fires in the atmosphere, Fursov added.

However, such level of air pollution with carbon monoxide poses no direct threat to people's health, he said. He believes "it can only be dangerous in case one has to breathe air with a carbon monoxide pollution rate of four-five ACL".

According to the space monitoring facilities data, the whole Moscow region is covered with smog, Fursov stated. "Unfortunately, the wind is so weak that its direction does not matter," said the head of MosEcoMonitoring.

The air condition in the Russian capital will hardly change in the coming days, the smog is likely to last. Meteorologists forecast that Wednesday will see the arrival of an anticyclone bringing warm, even hot weather, which may increase the level of harmful substances in the atmosphere.
