Middle East: Arab parliaments back Iraq

Baghdad will receive the leaders of the Parliaments of several Arab nations in an extraordinary meeting of the Arab parliamentary Union, which will express its support for Baghdad against a military strike by the United States of America.

The Presidents of the Parliaments of Yemen, Syria, Algeria and Qatar and the Vice-presidents of those of Egypt and Jordan arrived in Baghdad on Monday for an extraordinary meeting to reiterate the support of their governments for Baghdad, against a military attack on Iraq by the USA and in favour of a diplomatic solution for the crisis.

Kuwait, invaded by Iraq in 1990 after allegedly pursuing a practice of cross-drilling (stealing Iraqi oil reserves from across the border), will not send representatives, although the Foreign Minister of this country has already declared himself in favour of a diplomatic solution.
