Retained Chechen militant could be suspect in helicopter crash

The Interior Department of Chechnya is checking the complicacy of aretained gunman to a terrorist act, in which a Mi-26 helicopter was shotdown. As an officer of the department reported to RBC, this active memberof a terrorist group was captured in a special operation executed forsearching for possible accomplices in this crime. A Mi-26 helicoptercrashed near a base of federal forces in Khankala on August 19, 2002. Over100 people were killed in this catastrophe. The official data on the causeof the crash have not been released yet. According to unofficialinformation leaked to some mass media with a reference to a source in theRussian military headquarters in the North Caucasus, the helicopter wasshot down by a rocket launched from a portable anti-aircraft missilesystem..
