WWF warns of tiger-eating man

Despite its status as a protected species, restaurants in Malaysia are serving tiger as a main dish, along with leopard, monkey and bear.

Malaysia’s World Wildlife Fund Director, Mikaail Kavanagh Abdullah, claimed that “It is far more likely that a person will eat a tiger in this country than the other way around”. He called on tourists to boycott restaurants serving illegal species and to report them to the authorities.

A WWF survey showed that there were 650 tigers in the Malaysian Peninsula in 1997, a drop of some 5,000 in the last 50 years.
