American Congressman Scolded for Citing Abortion-Cancer Link

A congressman who spoke to a group of breast cancer survivors about the link between abortion and breast cancer, a tie supported by dozens of studies, is being castigated for daring to mention this reality.

Several of the 11 breast cancer survivors who called on Rep. John N. Hostettler, R-Ind., to ask him to support more federal money for breast cancer research were shocked when he insisted on discussing what studies have found about the connection between abortion and the disease, the Washington Post reported. Several of the women "were surprised to be given a lecture on the perils of abortion."

"It upset us that he seemed to imply that having an abortion was the main thing we needed to address to eliminate breast cancer," said Monica Hawkins, a 60-year-old breast cancer survivor. "The point is, none of us in that room had an abortion."

Hostettler's comments "have ignited a political firestorm in his district," according to the Post, meaning that pro-abortion Democrats are trying to use the incident to explain why he should be defeated for re-election in November, although he is "heavily favored to win."

Indiana Democrat party chairman Peter J. Manous, for example, said Hostettler's remarks were "grossly insensitive" and demanded an apology despite the fact that the congressman was merely trying to warn women of the possible dangers of breast cancer they face if they have abortions.

Hostettler told the Evansville Courier & Press that the meeting was "a discussion of breast cancer research and other issues. They did not want to talk about certain issues, and I wanted to. … If they don't like what I say, I can't help that."

National Cancer Institute says there is no established link between breast cancer and abortion despite a host of studies that strongly support the link, which thanks to intense pressure from the billion-dollar abortion industry is a taboo subject for the liberal media establishment.

A link between breast cancer and abortion was clearly indicated in studies conducted in the United States, Japan, Denmark, Italy and Russia. One study showed that women who had one or two abortions before a full-term pregnancy doubled their risk, and women who had three or more abortions tripled their risk. Similar conclusions were found from studies conducted in Israel, Canada, France and Japan.

’A Matter of What Is’

"I would have loved to have found no association between breast cancer and abortion, but our research is rock solid, and our data is accurate. It's not a matter of believing, it's a matter of what is," said the pro-abortion Dr. Janet Dailing of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, who has reached the conclusion linking breast cancer to abortion.

Thousands of women could die because of the failure of the medical establishment and government to warn women of the link between abortion and breast cancer. British researchers from Populations and Pensions Research Institution, an independent group of statisticians, reported that women who procure abortions double their risks of breast cancer, the British publication The Age reported Dec. 4, 2001.

Statisticians examined the incidences of breast cancer and abortion in Finland, Sweden and Great Britain, and concluded that the increasing frequency of the disease was directly related to a climb in the abortion rates.

The statisticians determined that as many as half the cases of breast cancer in England and Wales between 1997 and 2023 "will be attributable to abortion." Patrick Carroll, a statistician and author, revealed that breast cancer rates in England would surge from 35,110 in 1997 to 77,000 in 2023. This dramatic increase will occur because of the large number of abortions performed before the first full-term pregnancy.

A woman who has never given birth unknowingly subjects herself to greater risks for the disease by having an abortion because her breast cells are in an immature state and are especially vulnerable to carcinogens at that time. Beginning at the outset of pregnancy, estrogen levels climb 2,000 percent and cause a terrific multiplication of breast cells. When she undergoes an abortion, she is left with more cancer-vulnerable cells than she had before the pregnancy. The maturing process known as "differentiation" does not take place until the third trimester and provides a woman with more cancer-resistant cells.
