Weathermen predict tornado in Krasnodar territory

A storm warning has been announced in the Krasnodar Territory (Northern Caucasus).

The Russian Railways Ministry reported that weather forecasts predict the formation of tornadoes which are likely to hit the land, strong thunder-storms, intensification of squally winds and a rise of the mountain river levels.

On Tuesday, following heavy rainfalls nine mud flows came down on the Tuapse-Sochi section, in connection with which train traffic had to be stopped. Earth mixed with broken trees and pebbles blocked up the road. Contact system pylons have been overturned.

Repeated mud flows were registered in some sections of the main line, noted the ministry.

In addition to that, the situation was aggravated in the Mineralnye Vody section of the North Caucasian railway. On Tuesday, a strong torrent scoured off the railway at the Sotnikovskaya-Novozhiznensky section, in some places up to 3 metres deep. Traffic has been stopped since 22:50 on August 6.

Restoration work is underway now.
