Israeli Civilian Lynched Near Tul-Karem

Yesterday (2 August 2002) at approximately 10:00 a.m., the body of an Israeli citizen was found in the Gashuri industrial area, located near Tul-Karm. The body was found near a van that he had been driving, and marks on his neck indicate that he was hanged before being shot in the head at close range.

Brigadier General Gershon Itzhak, Commander of West Bank Division I, which includes the Gashuri industrial area, stated, "In the incident that occurred today in the Gashuri industrial area, a lynching was carried out against an Israeli citizen who was bound and shot from zero range for being a Jew."

Brigadier General Gershon Itzhak Commander of West Bank Division I, which includes the Gashuri industrial area, stated, "We are talking about a ruthless kind of terror that does not have any consideration for the local Palestinian civil population that arrives in this area, this morning as on most days, to work, in order to make a living, as they have been doing every day, for the past two years.

We understand that the killers came from the city of Tul-Karem, and took advantage of the removing of the curfew to commit this terrorist attack. They arrived at the Gashuri industrial area this morning, committed the murder and then escaped back into Tul-Karem.

In fact, we have seen that every time we attempt to ease the conditions for the Palestinian civil population, helping to enable them to return to an ordinary lifestyle, the terror organizations increase their activities. By doing so, time and time again, these terror organizations disregard the pain that it causes to their own people."
