YUKOS could pay interim dividends

The top management of the YUKOS Oil Company suggested its shareholders make a decision on paying interim dividends for 2002. As YUKOS spokesperson Alexander Shadrin reported to RBC, the company would like to resume paying interim dividends due to the adoption of amendments to the law on joint-stock companies. According to him, even the date of a meeting of the board of directors, which would discuss this suggestion and appoint the date of a corresponding shareholders' meeting, has not been chosen so far. At the same time, Shadrin could not specify, for which period YUKOS would like to pay these dividends.

YUKOS started paying six-month dividends in 2000. In 2001, the company paid RUR15.25bn (about $479.25m) in dividends against RUR8.59bn (about $269.95m) in 2000.
