RAO UES to save up to 40bn cubic meters of gas annually

The construction and operation of modern steam and gas power stations will save up to 40bn cubic meters of gas annually, Deputy CEO of RAO UES of Russia Sergey Dubinin said at the Harvard economic forum (Boston, US). The Deputy CEO pointed out the introduction of new steam and gas technologies would substantially reduce the influence of gas price growth on energy tariffs. The implementation of gas turbine technologies will boost the effectiveness of heating power plants using natural gas to 58-60 percent, an increase of 50 percent as compared to the current efficiency of the most economical power stations. The holding's power stations consumed 131.2bn cubic meters of gas in 2001. The installation of new steam and gas equipment will contribute to decreasing gas consumption to 30 percent with the current output level.
