3 lemurs settle in Siberia

Three ring-tailed lemurs (one male and two female animals) were delivered to the Novosibirsk Zoo (West Siberia) from the Los Angeles Primate Centre as part of an exchange programme.

According to Olga Shilo, the deputy director of the Novosibirsk Zoo, the acclimatisation of the lemurs was a success.

The lemurs were placed into a special cage. The period of their adaptation to new conditions can last for several months.

According to Shilo, the experts of the Novosibirsk Zoo intend to begin the reproduction of these rare and beautiful primates.

The negotiations on the acquisition of lemurs have been held with the Los Angeles Primate Centre for about three years, the deputy director said.

The Novosibirsk Zoo keeps only one couple of ring-tailed lemurs, but they have not produced posterity yet.
