UNO to Act Against Albanian Destruction of Serb Orthodox Churches

The United Nations Organisation has reacted after two churches were damaged, the latest in a spate of attacks by vandals against Serbian cultural references in the province, claiming that action will be taken against all forms of religious violence.

The head of the UN Interim Administration in Kosovo, Michael Steiner, declared that “We are all united in condemning these acts”, as he was joined by the Prime Minister Bajram Rexhepi, visiting the Church of All Serbian Saints in Djurakovac, which was destroyed by a bomb attack on Sunday.

The church is to be rebuilt with UN funds. Meanwhile, another church, the Church of Saint Basil, in Ljubovo, five kilometres away, was also gutted by explosives, on the eve of the visit of Kofi Annan to the province.
