$6,700 fine possible for illegal crab fishers in Bering Sea

The captain of the Norwegian ship "North Star" may be fined as much as 6,700 dollars by the naval inspectors of the Russian frontier guards (FPS) in the Arctic region. This fine would be imposed as punishment for illegal crab fishing in the Bering Sea, say RIA Novosti sources in the FPS.

Last week, naval inspectors aboard the ship "Slavyanogorsk" carried out an inspection of vessels fishing within the Russian economic zone. During this operation they examined the Norwegian trawler "North Star", and discovered on board the meat of 165 crabs. The inspectors drew up a report on the spot, since in the Russian economic zone of the Bering sea the Kamchatka crab may be caught only for scientific purposes.
