Cyclone rages in Kamchatka

A cyclone that has been raging over Japan is now approaching Kamchatka (a peninsula in the north-western part of Russia's Far East).

The regional administrative centre is currently suffering from heavy rain showers and strong winds. In several districts of the Petropavlovsk City water has flooded roads. Schools have cancelled mid-day classes.

Weathermen forecast the calamity will climax in the late hours of Thursday. By Friday noon, the cyclone's influence of the peninsula's weather will substantially decrease.

According to the Kamchatka regional department for hydrometeorology and environmental monitoring, the cyclone has approached the peninsula from Japan. Further on, it turned eastwards approaching the peninsula from the northern part of the Kuril Islands.
