Rains and snow help do away with large fires in Chukotka Tundra

The rains and snow that fell on Thursday helped put out two out of the five large hotbeds of fire on the burning reindeer pastures in Chukotka. At the same time, over the past 24 hours airborne firemen eliminated two large fires on peat bogs situated in a difficult-of-access taiga area.

RIA Novosti was told this on Friday by controller of the Far-Eastern base of aviation protection of forests Sergei Kozyulin.

According to him, 14 fires were registered in the Far-Eastern federal district on Friday: ten on the territory of the Amur Region, one in the Khabarovsk Territory, and three on the reindeer pastures in Chukotka.

As the weather forecasters and specialists presume, the precipitation which began in Chukotka will soon extinguish all the fires on the reindeer pastures.
