China: New dam leads to 100,000 job losses

The largest dam in the world, the Three Throats dam, under construction along the course of the Yangtze river, has led to the closure of hundreds of companies which have been, or will be, forced to close. The result is over 100,000 job losses in the region and 1.13 million relocations.

500 companies established in the area affected by the dam will cease activity. However, according to official sources, the new dam will not only stabilise the worst cause of flooding in China on a systematic basis but will also produce energy. The workers will be assimilated in other companies in the area where they are to be re-housed.
