Mitsubishi Motors Corp sales of passenger cars rose 6.5% in September from a year earlier to 39,935 units.

A company tends to think this gain is mainly due to the popularity of its ekWagon minivehicle. Its sales topped the monthly sales target by more than 7,000 units.

Daihatsu Motor Co will begin joint production of minicars and other vehicles with China FAW Group Corp by 2005.

Daihatsu plans to spend more than 20 billion yen for the joint production and make about 100,000 vehicles a year in China in 2007.

Yanase & Co, a major Japanese car dealer specializing in foreign vehicles will set up a joint venture with Audi Japan K.K. to promote sales of Audi cars in Japan.

Yanase Audi Sales Co will be owned 66.6% by Yanase and 33.4% by Audi.
