RAO UES forecasts situation in energy industry this winter

The high level of preparedness for winter of RAO UES companies supports expectations that the Russian energy industry will not have any serious problems this winter, the press service of the energy giant stated. At the same time, RAO UES companies provide heat only to 30 percent of Russian consumers. All the rest energy is produced by local companies. In connection with this, the preparedness of local facilities for winter is the major condition for uninterrupted heat supply for Russian consumers.

Meanwhile, according to the data of the Russian Construction Committee, as of September 1, 2002, coal reserves at local communal companies were 7.3 million tons, which was less than 50 percent of the necessary amount. The stores of fuel oil were 1.9 million tons, or 40 percent of the required level. Repairing activities at communal facilities are behind the schedule. Last year's level of fuel stores and the facility condition were much better before last year's winter, when there were failures in heat supply due to lack of fuel and the condition of facilities.

The most serious situation is in the Ulyanovsk, Arkhangelsk, Kurgan, Murmansk, Kamchatka, Sakhalin, Magadan, Primorye, Khabarovsk, and Altai regions, as well as in Karelia, Tyva, Komi, and Yakutia.
