Putin holds his first telephone conversation with Donald Trump

Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with US President-elect Donald Trump, the press service of the Kremlin said on November 14.

Putin once again congratulated the Republican candidate on his victory in the election and wished him success in the execution of the pre-election program. The Russian president expressed his readiness for partnership with the new administration of the White House on "principles of equality, mutual respect and non-interference in each other's internal affairs."

Putin and Trump agreed that the Russian-US relations remain in an "extremely unsatisfactory condition." They also spoke in favor of active joint work for their normalization in the direction of constructive cooperation on a wide range of issues, including "the creation of a sound basis of bilateral ties through the development of their trade and economic component."
