Navigation resumed in St. Petersburg

Last night the navigation, stopped on Tuesday, October 8th, after the lifting mechanism of the Palace Bridge collapsed, was resumed. A source at the directorate of the Mostotrest company said that during the last day, the repair group of the company managed to fix the defect in a gear wheel of the lifting mechanism.

On Tuesday night the navigation on the Neva River was as scheduled. The source said that the schedule of the lifting of the bridges had not been changed. Twenty-one ships which did not sail along the Neva River last night were allowed to sail after a more intensive schedule was drawn up.

On Monday night, while raising the Palace Bridge, the lifting mechanism collapsed, which did not allow the bridge to be fully raised. The defect failed to be immediately fixed and the bridge was lowered, the ships' navigation postponed. Twenty-one ships, five of which were oil tankers, were lined up along the Sinopskaya Embankment as well.
