Federation Council Speaker, Russian Citizens Must be Entitled to Recall any Government Official

Federation Council Speaker Sergei Mironov believes that Russian citizens must be entitled to withdraw any government official, whether local or federal.

On Thursday speaking to the press, Mironov said that the Upper House of the Russian Parliament had outlined the issue, and it could be that in the near future the senators would proceed to working out a legislative initiative to submit it to the State Duma (Lower House).

He recalled the presidential impeachment procedure, as well the recall of a Federation Council Member.

"This right to recall should be extended to the rest of the governmental bodies in Russia," Mironov believes.

First of all, he stressed, it referred to the institutions of local governing, regional legislative assemblies and the State Duma.
