Nizhny Novgorod region to build new sports complexes in every district

In the Nizhny Novgorod region, a visiting meeting was conducted for the construction of sports facilities. To date, there are 27 sports and recreation centers operating in the region; seven more are under construction.

"Investment conditions are not the best today, but we found funds to continue the program. Despite limited resources, the work will continue, until every district of the region has its own sports complex. In the city of Nizhny Novgorod, there should be two of such complexes built in every part of the city," said Nizhny Novgorod Governor Valery Shantsev.

The participants of the meeting inspected the progress of construction of a fitness center in the workers' village of Viyezdnoye, the Arzamas district. Traditionally, the object in the village will include three blocks: a multifunctional gym with stands, two pools, workout rooms, a cinema hall and an indoor ice arena with artificial ice and stands. The complex will open its doors to first visitors in mid-July.

The program of building fitness centers in the region was launched in 2006. Since then, the number of residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region, who go in for sports, has tripled - from 9 to 27 percent. In 2014, the number of children, who attend various sports sections on a permanent basis, has grown by 30 percent. The number of pensioners, who attend sports sections, has grown by 34 percent. The number of disabled individuals doing sports has increased by five percent. A sports and recreation complex services about 1,000 people weekly with more than 60 kinds of sport developing. The regional program for the construction of sports and recreation centers has received high appraisals from the Russian government and famous athletes.
