Ivanovo region to develop traditional arts and crafts

The development of folk arts and crafts in several directions at once has become an important part of the program of strategic actions on socio-economic development before 2020. The program was presented by Ivanovo region Governor Pavel Konkov.

The Ivanovo region has been renowned for the art of lacquer miniature, wood crafts, handmade embroidery, folk costumes, textile painting and jewelry. Such centers as Palekh and Holuy are known throughout the world.

"Traditional crafts should play a role in the development of the region and the country as a whole. This is their peculiar feature, so to speak. There are companies in the field of folk arts and crafts whose history counts 400-500 years. They have been through wars, disasters, revolutions, but still they exist. We, modern humans, must preserve our national and cultural heritage, - Gennady Drozhin, chairman of the association "Folk Arts and Crafts of Russia" told Pravda.Ru.

The Ivanovo region will pay special attention to activities supporting the projects designed to develop the tourist infrastructure in the cities of Plyos, Yurievets, Puchezh, as well as in the villages of Palekh and Holuy of the Yuzhsky District of the Ivanovo region.

"Of course, this is very important, because there is nothing like this anywhere in the world. Although lacquer miniature can be found in China and Japan, the Russian one is very specific, - art historian Svetlana Zharnikova told Pravda.Ru. - Of course, this will play a huge role for the region. Plus, it also goes about the propaganda of the Russian culture abroad, which is also an important factor."
