Head of UNMOVIC inspection team declares in Moscow that there will not be a war if Iraq meets requirements

The head of the UNMOVIC arms inspection team, Hans Blix, has declared in Moscow that if Iraq meets all the requirements of the United Nations Organisation, there will not be a war.

He stated that if Baghdad shows that Iraq does not have weapons of mass destruction, and if Iraq cooperates with the inspection teams, allowing them to make an “effective and correct” inspection, giving the inspectors access to any place they wish to examine, there will not be a war.

The declarations of Hans Blix come at the same time as Washington tones down the belligerent rhetoric and Moscow and Paris insist on a diplomatic solution to the crisis, under the terms of the United Nations Charter.
