Russian President Vladimir Putin rejected the Government's proposal to impose retaliatory sanctions against the U.S. and the EU.

"The Russian government has already proposed several responsive measures. I believe that this is not necessary, - Putin said. - We would not want to resort to certain responsive steps, and I hope that we would not need that."

The president noted that "if something like this continues, then, of course, we'll have to think about who and works in the Russian Federation and how, especially in the key sectors of the Russian economy, including the energy sector."
