In the course of the operative work in the first quarter of this year, Russian combat troops have neutralized the activities of the leader of subversive terrorist organization Imarat Kavkaz, Doku Umarov. More than 200 militants have been arrested, FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov said at a meeting of the National Anti-Terrorist Committee.
Doku Umarov, a warlord from the North Caucasus, was involved in bloodiest terrorist attacks of recent years, including the explosion of the Nevsky Express train in 2009, bombings in the Moscow metro in 2010 and the terrorist attack at Domodedovo Airport in 2011.
According to Bortnikov, in the first quarter of 2014, 33 anti-terrorist operations were conducted, 13 terrorist leaders and 65 active members of armed groups were destroyed; more than 240 criminals and their accomplices were detained.
"Nine terrorist crimes have been prevented," said the head of the FSB.
