RF Ministry for Internal Affairs: Terrorist Network Operates in Moscow

The Russian Ministry for Internal Affairs informs that “there is every reason to believe that a terrorist network is operating in the Moscow region of Russia.” The ministry’s press-service reports that this was said at a meeting held by Minister for Internal Affairs Boris Gryzlov with the ministerial leadership on Saturday. The liquidation of this network was the main idea on the meeting’s agenda.

The ministry outlined key objectives for the next several days: it is necessary to find out how the terrorists managed to get to Moscow; their accomplices and people who helped the terrorists find accommodation, warehouses for weapons, and transportation are to be identified as well.

The press-service informs that Minister Boris Gryzlov ordered measures to guarantee security to the Russian people and to prevent terrorist activity in the country. In particular, it was decided that intensified police patrolling will remain until special instructions are issued. In addition to search operations, more security around important buildings, in crowded places, and on the highways will be conducted to guarantee security to the people.

It is planned to hold thorough inspections of deserted territories, sanatoria, holiday homes, abandoned military areas, and other places that might be used by terrorists as shelters. At that, protection of the Moscow metro, tower buildings, depots of dangerous substances, schools, hospitals, and airports will remain intensified. The Ministry for Internal Affairs informs that special attention will be paid to thorough checks on the highways.

All suspicious cars parked near schools, hospitals, dwelling houses, and administrative buildings are to be evacuated. Over 300,000 buildings where weapons and ammunition are stored and about 1,500 places where explosives are produced and stored will be also taken under intensified control and protection.

At the same time, law enforcement authorities insist that “it’s important to prevent any kind of anti-Caucasian extremism actions among the youth.”

The Ministry for Internal Affairs stresses that all mentioned actions are aimed to guarantee better security and asks the Russian population to understand the importance of these measures.
