U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul intends to leave Russia after the Olympic Games in Sochi.

"It's time to go home," he wrote in his blog, noting that it was his last post as the U.S. ambassador to Russia. "I will leave Russia reluctantly. I love this job," he also wrote.

Michael McFaul, a graduate of Stanford University, was appointed as the U.S. Ambassador to the Russian Federation in December 2011. Prior to that, he worked at the Moscow Carnegie Center. In July 2009, in accordance with a joint decision of the presidents of the two countries, McFaul - Surkov working group was established for civil society issues.

John Beyrle served as the U.S. Ambassador to Russia before McFaul.

What made Mr. McFaul hurry back home from snowy Russia?
