Russia to display 150 items of special equipment and armaments at milipol Qatar-2002 exposition

Russia's federal state unitary enterprise Rosoboronexport is representing 150 items of special equipment and armaments at the 4th International MILIPOL QATAR 2002 exhibition, due to open today in Doha (Qatar), RIA Novosti learnt from a Rosoboronexport spokesman.

The prestigious exposition has been held since 1984 by turns in France and Qatar. In Qatar it is taking place in the country's capital's International Exhibition Center, patronised by the Qatar Interior Ministry.

The idea of MILIPOL organisers was that "this international parade of equipment and armaments for law enforcement agencies and special services make the international community join hands in the struggle against international terrorism, drug trafficking, smuggling and hostage-taking." "As the leading exclusive exporter of Russian military, dual-purpose and civil products," the spokesman told RIA Novosti, "we intend to continue interacting with special services and law enforcement bodies of other states to consolidate cooperation in the field of counteracting international terrorism." According to RIA Novosti's source, attendees of the Russian exposition at MILIPOL QATAR 2002 will be able to familiarise themselves with "a wide spectrum of special rifle and silent weapons, oriented at conducting special operations and public order enforcement, as well as hunting rifles." "For the first time, the international exhibition will see our ballistic identifying complex Condor that has no world analogues, which was designed with the use of the latest achievements in optics, mechanics, electronics and computer technologies," emphasised the Rosoboronexport spokesman. In his words, "the complex that has been tested in Russia and by Germany's police makes it possible to carry out the expertise of shot bullets and rifled weapons bullets, whereas the way of getting the involute of their surface and the device that fulfils this task are unique." MILIPOL items include criminalistic equipment, non-lethal means of neutralising culprits, systems of individual protection, optical and night vision devices, means of guarding the state border and strategically important facilities, information protection systems, as well as means of detecting and rescuing people in emergency conditions.
