The commutation of sentence to Alexey Navalny on the case of Kirovles, according to which his real prison term was replaced with a conditional one, is too lenient a punishment, the majority of Russians (46 percent) said in a recent opinion poll. Twenty-one percent found the verdict adequate, and only 8 percent think the ruling is too harsh. Twenty-three percent of respondents found it difficult to estimate.
The research by the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM ) showed that more than half of Russians (59 percent) were aware of Navalny's new sentence, but most people did not go in details of the case (44 percent). At the same time, 39 percent of the polled admitted that they first heard about it during the poll.
In July of this year, when Alexei Navalny was sentenced to a fine of 500,000 rubles and five years in a penal colony, a third of respondents thought the verdict was adequate (33 per cent). Ten percent considered it too lenient and 14 percent - too harsh.
