In Mediterranean Russia's landing ship opens warning fire re unidentified boat

Performing missions in the Mediterranean, the Yamal big landing ship of Russia's Black sea fleet opened fire along the course of an identified boat.

The incident happened on Monday morning, the RIA Novosti correspondent was told at the press service of the Russian Navy.

The boat, whose nationality is unknown, was converging with the Russian ship and did not react to requests given in the international radio communication channels and warning light signals (10 flares).

In this situation, the ship's cruise commander Rear-Admiral Alexander Kovshar, deputy commander of the Russian Black sea fleet, gave an order to open fire along the boat's course observing a safe distance. No reaction followed. Only after a machine gun burst, when the boat was 3 cable lengths (540 meters) from the Russian ship, did the boat ask by radio not to fire. Then the boat came to a standstill, let the Russian ship pass, crossed its course from behind and continued in a safe direction.
