Russian penitentiary authorities revise the labor standards that have not been changed for 40 years.

According to the Izvestia newspaper, the future changes are in no way related to a public complaint from Pussy Riot member Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, who spoke of inhumane working conditions in a camp in Mordovia republic, where she serves her sentence.

It is expected that from January 2014, prisoners' wages will be calculated on the basis of new rates. Currently, the salaries for prisoners are based on minimum monthly wages - 5205 rubles (about $160).
