Tourist flow in Nizhny Novgorod region grows

The development of domestic tourism is one of priorities for the development of the Nizhny Novgorod region. The head of the region, Valery Shantsev, has recently visited Peshelansky gypsum plant. In the Arzamas district, production has been normalized and an attractive tourist zone has been created during the recent several years.

"I remember when I first visited Peshelan in 2006 - we could only dream that the company would work at full capacity. Then we were building plans about the development of tourism. Today, we have here the Museum of Mining, Geology and Speleology, "The Lost World" park, a zoo and a tourist center," the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region Valery Shantsev said.

Today, the village of Peshelan is one of the most amazing tourist destinations of the Nizhny Novgorod region. Both Russian and foreign tourists come here already.

Another attractive tourist destination for the Nizhny Novgorod region is the development of folk arts and crafts. Thus, as part of the work visit, Shantsev visited Russia's first underground museum of Mining, Geology and Speleology, located in the operating mine of the Peshelan gypsum plant at a depth of 70 meters. The governor also took part in a master class on stone carving.

"Almost every district of the Nizhny Novgorod region has its own unique features that are actively developing. During the recent eight years, the number of foreign tourists in the Nizhny Novgorod region has increased nine-fold," said the governor.

Noteworthy, in the last few years, the Nizhny Novgorod region has been ranked second among Russian regions in terms of NPH, following the Moscow region.

In 2012, the Nizhny Novgorod region welcomed more than 85,000 foreign visitors, which was 37 percent more than in the previous year. As many as 650,000 people visited the area on booked tours. Since 2005, three museums have been built: "City of Masters" in Gorodets, "Gold Khokhloma" and the Museum of Folk Life - "The House of Semyon, the Spoon Maker." The NHP industry consists of 25 companies, 25 private entrepreneurs, and two centers of crafts, as well as the Pottery Center in the Bogorodsky district.
