Nizhny Novgorod to become part of high-speed railway project

Railway communication between Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod will become the first project of a high-speed railway track in Russia. Trains will be able to develop the speed of 400 kilometers per hour on the new tracks. 

The decision was taken on May 27, 2013 during a meeting about the prospects for the development of high-speed railways in Russia under the chairmanship of President Vladimir Putin. 

Nizhny Novgorod region Governor Valery Shantsev wrote on his blog how the traffic between Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod would be organized.

"There will be two stations. Trains from Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod will traditionally be arriving to the Moskovsky railway station. Transit trains - to Kazan and Yekaterinburg - will be making a stop in the area of Strigino, near the airport, where a new railway station will be built," said Valery Shantsev.

Fifty pairs of trains with travel on the new route every 30 minutes. According to Russian Railways, 27 pairs of trains will run from Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod; 23 more pairs will run to Kazan and Yekaterinburg with a stop in Strigino.

According to Valery Shantsev, now Nizhny Novgorod residents will be able to choose most convenient routes for them.

The governor also wrote in his blog about the plans to reconstruct the Moscow railway station and the airport. "By 2018, two terminals are to be built, ​​22,000 square meters each," wrote Shantsev.

Valery Shantsev approved the concept of the development of the transport infrastructure in the region, providing for the development of the Sormovsky-Meshchersky line of the Nizhny Novgorod subway.
