The Nizhny Novgorod region is preparing to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the region. The date will be celebrated in 2014. To prepare and conduct the event, an organizing committee was established, chaired by Governor Valery Shantsev.

In addition to the governor, the organizing committee includes representatives of executive authorities of the region, territorial bodies of federal executive authorities, local self-governing bodies and organizations, irrespective of their legal form.

The year 2013 was declared the year of the national cultural heritage. The governor stressed that history gave the Nizhny Novgorod region very rich heritage. A lot has been done during the recent years to preserve the heritage, Shantsev said.

"About 300 monuments have been restored, including the Zachatskaya Tower, the Rukavishnikovs House, the House of the Bugrovs, Sirotkins, the Shukhov Tower ... This is the legacy inherited from our ancestors that we should value and cherish," wrote Shantsev on his LiveJournal blog.

In 2012, Nizhny Novgorod residents celebrated the 400th anniversary of the People's Militia - a significant historical date, that reminds of the role of each generation in the history of Russia.
