Tax burden to reach 39% of GDP in Russia in 2002

The tax burden on the Russian economy will reach 39% of the GDP in 2002, Economic Development Minister German Gref declared at a conference in the Economic Academy of the Government of Russia. The minister underlined, "this is a rather high burden on the economy." According to him, "it is very difficult to achieve a high economic growth rate with this level of taxation." Gref remarked that it was planned to reduce the tax burden by several percentage points against the GDP in the next two years.
