United States Ambassador to Moscow Michael McFaul handed over to Russian officials eight historic documents that had been taken out of Russia in the early 1990s.

McFaul said during the ceremony that the event was made possible owing to nearly five years of work conducted by the investigation service of the national security of the United States and Russian law enforcement agencies.

The documents were stolen from the Russian National Historical Archives in St. Petersburg, the Russian National Archives of Literature and Art of Russian Military and Historical Archives.

The papers that were taken out of Russia included several decrees of Catherine II, Alexander II, a decree of Emperor Nicholas II and others.
