Moscow expresses protest to US Ambassador to Russia over spy scandal

Moscow has expressed a protest to the U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul in connection with an attempt to recruit a representative of Russian secret services by CIA agent, the website the Russian Ministry for Foreign Affairs said Wednesday.

Michael McFaul was summoned to the Foreign Ministry to provide explanations in relation to the spy scandal that occurred to CIA agent Ryan Fogle, who worked under the cover of a U.S. diplomat. Fogle reportedly offered a member of Russian secret services to work for American intelligence for $1 million a year.

During the meeting at the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Ambassador of the United States received an official protest in an attempt to recruit a representative Russian special services. Fogle was declared persona non grata; he will have to leave the territory of the Russian Federation within the shortest time possible, officials at the Russian Foreign Ministry said. The suspect has been handed over to representatives of the U.S. embassy.
