Putin's majority highly important in Russia's political system

The Head of the Civil Society Fund, Konstantin Kostin, commented the results of the poll conducted by experts of the Fund. According to him, the survey data show that the "Putin majority" serves as an important factor in Russia's modern political system."

Vladimir Putin continues to enjoy considerable support of his traditional electorate. He is also capable of expanding this support with the help of the electorate of his competitors at the recent presidential elections in Russia, said Konstantin Kostin.

"Since the figure is stable enough, we have analyzed the possibility of expanding Putin's electorate. Approximately, 30% more of the citizens, who voted for other candidates, say that they could vote for Putin. In absolute terms, this is about 10 percent more," Interfax news agency quoted Kostin as saying.

According to Kostin, "it is also favored by the presence of additional resources for the growth of support for Putin at the expense of those who voted for other candidates at the presidential elections in March 2012."

A quarter of those, who voted for Mikhail Prokhorov, admit that they can vote for Putin. As many as 23 percent of supporters of Vladimir Zhirinovsky and 17 percent of Sergei Mironov's voters share the same opinion.
