Nizhny Novgorod livestock industry enters new level

 

The authorities of Nizhny Novgorod region plan to make the region self-sufficient in terms of milk and meat products. The Regional Livestock Development Program has reached a higher level, Nizhny Novgorod Governor Valery Shantsev said, commenting on the prospects of the industry in the region.

Breeding complex "Plodopitomnik" has recently opened in the village of Trofimovo of the Lyskovsky district of the region. A new calf shed for 250 animals has appeared in the village.

The calf shed will become a home for the elite brown Schwyz breed that is peculiar for its uprated meat and milk production.

As noted in the regional government, this is the first complex of its kind in the region. However, it is planned to build ten more similar objects. The complex was built by Nizhny Novgorod companies.

Within the framework of the regional livestock development program, which was adopted on the initiative of Governor Shantsev, stipulates active promotion of agricultural development.

During two and a half years of the program, 476 livestock buildings have been constructed and reconstructed. New technologies have already covered 70 percent of dairy livestock.

"Now the program enters a new level - we are moving from modernization to construction. In 2013, 125 new livestock farms will be built in the region. Nizhny Novgorod residents l highly estimate Nizhny Novgorod products - fresh, delicious and inexpensive. And today, our agricultural producers have the goal to make the region entirely self-sufficient in terms of meat and milk supplies," Governor Shantsev said.
