Crime level in Nizhny Novgorod region decreasing

Nizhny Novgorod Governor Valery Shantsev attended the board meeting of the Central Directorate of Russia's Interior Ministry for the Nizhny Novgorod region. As of 2012, the region registered a decline in the number of crimes. To maintain positive dynamics, local authorities plan to introduce a special program titled "Safe City". About one billion rubles have already been allocated for this purpose.

According to the Nizhny Novgorod police, there was a decrease in crime in 2012, including such types of crimes as serious and very serious attempts on human life, crimes against person and property-related offenses, such as thefts, burglaries and robberies. The crime detection rate has increased by 11.2 percent, which is 5.7 percent more than the average national index.

"We are now among the regions where the crime reduction tempo is higher than on average in Russia. We will try to keep this positive trend," Nizhny Novgorod Region Governor Valery Shantsev said.

For the time being, there are about 50 prophylactic programs in the region. In the near future, we plan to introduce a new complex of measures known as "Safe City". The implementation of the project will help to increase the efficiency of law enforcement activities and crime detection.
