Nizhny Novgorod's military and industrial complex enhances production capacity

Enterprises of the military-industrial complex of the Nizhny Novgorod region increase their production capacity. During the last four years, the state defense order has increased by 50 percent. In 2013, regional companies will have plenty of work as well. This issue was discussed at the exit meeting with the participation of the governor - the meeting was devoted to the development of the military-industrial complex.

The defense complex of the Nizhny Novgorod region was formed during the years of the Soviet Union. The complex has been reviving during the recent years. Plants get reconstructed and modernized. The volumes of state orders have been growing.

"There is powerful re-equipment going on at all objects to preserve competitiveness, to keep up with global trends in the production of high-tech products," the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Valery Shantsev said.

The meeting was held at the Federal Research and Production Center of the company Polyot ("Flight"), which also implements the state defense order. There are difficulties with proportional distribution of contracts of the Defense Ministry. According to Valery Shantsev, the equipment at some companies is idle, like at NPP Polyot, for example, whereas some other companies have to forward their contracts because they can not handle them all. A situation like that has been formed at Burevestnik Research Institute.

"Currently, about 60 percent of their production accounts for state defense order, and 40 percent - for civilian production. This is the balance that protects a company should any economic fluctuations occur," the head of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Valery Shantsev said.

In the Nizhny Novgorod region, there are 55 industrial, research and design companies, three quarters of which are referred to as strategic companies.
