Moscow gets rid of giant advertisements

The Moscow authorities began to dismantle the last large-scale advertising construction in the vicinity of the Kremlin, located on the roof of the Russian State Library. The name of a well-known electronics-making company has been  "decorating" the building in the city center since the late 1990s. The giant construction was ​​460 square meters large.

The authorities decided to remove the advertisement after the Russian capital effected new rules for outdoor advertising.

"This construction marks the end of the era of large format advertising in Moscow," the head of the department for media and advertising Vladimir Chernikov told reporters. "This will no longer be allowed in the city. Advertisements are supposed to beautify the city, rather than cripple it," he added.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin personally observed the dismantling process. The mayor promised that in the future the city authorities will remove all large advertisement constructions in the city. The mayor added that in the last two years there were 300,000 different advertising designs dismantled in Moscow - large banners and billboards that covered facades.
