Ekaterinburg to bring world's best programmers together

Ekaterinburg will host the competition of two superpowers in the field of ​​programming. Teams from Russia and China will compete for the title of the best programmers. The contest of computer specialists is scheduled for May 1, 2013 -  it will be held in the scope of the championship of the Urals. The news was announced at the round table discussion in the Urals Federal University named after Russia's first President Boris Yeltsin.

Nowadays, Chinese programmers, along with Russian ones, are considered to be one of the most advanced IT specialists in the world. Therefore, it was decided to organize a contest between the giants of programming - Russia and China.

During the talks, the Chinese side has confirmed its participation. The Chinese team will consist of students from five foreign universities. The Russian team will also consist of five high schools: two universities from St. Petersburg, two from Moscow and one from the Ural Federal University.

The set of objectives for the future, "Battle of the Titans" will be designed by the University of Warsaw, where at the beginning of this year, Ekaterinburg presented its bid to host the World Programming Championship during 2016-2017.

When asked why it was decided to compete with Chinese students, deputy director of the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science Magaz Asanov said: "There are other strong teams of programmers, for example, in the U.S. and Canada, but they are mostly staffed by people from of China."

Another no less important event for Ekaterinburg will also take place in May of next year. According to the first vice-rector of the Ural Federal University Dmitry Bugrov, the city to host the World Programming Championship will be named on May 31, 2013.

Should Ekaterinburg win the bid to hold the final of the championship, the upcoming event will be the most technologically advanced in its history. As a spokesperson for the Ural Federal University said, it was not an ambition but an idea suggested by American colleagues, who appreciated the high infrastructure capacity of Ekaterinburg during their visit to the city.

The authority of the bid strengthened the successful performance of the Ural student in the semifinal round of the World Programming Championship in St. Petersburg. UFU's team Orange was among the participants in the championship of programmers, which will be held in Russia for the first time - again in St. Petersburg - in the summer of 2013.

"Under the law of marketing: if you can not be the first, be better in something. Therefore, given our regional features, the Ural nature, we will find our special thing. If we have the opportunity to host the final round of the championship, we will take it on a qualitatively new level," said Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Sergey Frolov.
