The passenger traffic of the Nizhny Novgorod Subway will triple after the launch of the first station in the upper part of the city to reach 330,000 people a day, Governor Valery Shantsev said. The construction of the first subway station in the upper part of Nizhny Novgorod is about to finish. The new station - Gorkovskaya - is set to open on November 4th.
All the works have been completed; specialists currently test the equipment to launch it for the opening day. Valery Shantsev, the Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, became the first honorary passenger. According to him, the current passenger traffic in the Nizhny Novgorod subway makes up 110,000 people a day. The launch of the new station will triple the traffic, the governor said. "The journey from the Moskovskaya Station, which used to be the terminal station for the two lines of the Nizhny Novgorod Subway, will be 6.5 minutes," he said.
The existing stations will connect to the Gorkovsky subway bridge. The construction of the bridge framework was completed in late 2008. Car traffic was launched on the bridge in 2009. The launch of the new station will leave the Nizhny Novgorod Subway ticket prices unchanged - 16 rubles per ride (50 cents).
