Predator Takes Out Al-Qaeda Leader

The arm of the Pentagon reaches far around the world in the guise of the deadly Predator, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) which can fire a hellfire missile at a target pinpointed thousands of kilometres away. It is believed that Ali Qaed Sunian al-Harthi, reportedly a right-hand man to Osama Bin Laden, was killed yesterday in Yemen by one of these unmanned vehicles.

Al-Harthi, also known as Abu Ali, is believed to have been responsible for planning the bomb attack against the USS Cole in 2000 in which 17 US sailors died. He was one of a group of six people killed when their car was destroyed by a hellfire missile in the Yemeni desert on Monday. The group had been described by international news sources as being suspected Al-Qaeda terrorists.

The fire-power and range of the UAV gives the Pentagon a formidable weapon to use around the globe. Flying at 25,000 feet, it has the capacity to take high-resolution pictures and to fire a hellfire missile at a target on the ground below, by remote control. This means that Pentagon officials have the capacity to kill anyone, anywhere, at any time. Without even a pretext.
