Kazakhstan and Russia have achieved preliminary agreement on the transit of Russian oil via Kazakhstan to Turkmenistan, general director of the KazTransOil closed company Askar Smankulov told a press conference in Astana on Wednesday.

According to him, some 3 million tons of oil are to be transited.

Oil is to be transported via a pipeline, starting in Omsk (the south of Siberia), which was constructed in the Soviet times.

Several Russian companies are planning to transit oil to Turkmenistan for processing, Smankulov said.
