Valery Shantsev: food logistics center will be created in the Nizhny Novgorod region

The governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region Valery Shantsev discussed construction in the region of a logistic center for food with Sergei Lisovsky, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee for Agriculture and Food Policy. Such centers exist in many countries, for example, in Poland there are 12 of them, and in France - 56. Russia does not have similar structures.

Nizhny Novgorod region is one of the key logistics centers through which traffic flows in many directions. Therefore, the creation of food logistics center in the region is necessary. In addition, the area is conveniently located in relation to the capital and is a powerful central part of Russia for agricultural base.

The development of the economy without such centers today is ineffective. Agricultural producers are experiencing difficulties selling their products. The lack of a developed logistics negatively affects retailers. A Logistics Center will take care of processing, marketing and storage of produce.

Construction of the center will require investments amounting to ten billion rubles. The initial implementation cost in 2013 would amount to two billion rubles. In his blog Shantsev wrote that "the project is very important for the region. This is not just a question of food security, but also a great opportunity to strengthen the link between agriculture and trade. It's no secret that today many farmers experience difficulties with selling their own products - it is a matter of distribution channels, packing of goods, the application of bar codes, etc.

These logistics centers will help farmers to bring their goods to customers. Farmers will bring their produce to the center where the food will be subjected to primary processing, storage and preparation for wholesale sales that will take place in the center. In short, the logistics center is a link between producer and consumer".
