Nizhny Novgorod governor award Phoenix for charity

A ceremony was held in Nizhny Novgorod's Rukavishnikov Manor Museum-Reserve of the first regional award of public recognition in the field of charity and volunteerism. The  award is called "Nizhny Novgorod Phoenix." Governor Valery Shantsev, who was present at the ceremony, expressed said that such awards would hopefully become a tradition.

Valery Shantsev awarded a diploma and a medal to the winning project "Good Nizhny" in the nomination, which the governor founded last year - "Contribution to the development of volunteerism and charity." Dozens of charity events are held as part of the "Good Nizhny" project annually. Nizhny Novgorod residents donate their blood, collect books, toys, educational games and clothes, donate money. "Good Nizhny" helps orphans, children with disabilities, large families, low-income families, seniors and veterans.

This year, the competition received nearly 100 applications from companies, associations and mass media, which provided financial assistance last year to the people in need, organized charity events or participated in voluntary social programs. "Nizhny Novgorod Phoenix" went to the winners in seven categories: "Philanthropist of the Year", "Patron of the Year," "Good Will Company," "Initiative in the field of philanthropy," "Volunteer of the Year", "Initiative in the field of volunteerism," "Social Journalist / Social Media of the Year".

Chairman of the Legislative Assembly Evgeny Lebedev said: "It is encouraging that in our time charity is not a fashion trend for many Nizhny Novgorod residents - it is something that people feel they have to do. Most importantly - this is a sincere desire to help and support those in need, especially children."

"Nizhny Novgorod Phoenix" Award - is the successor of "Nizhny Novgorod Charity Seasons", which had been held in the region since 1999 by Service association with the support of the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod region. In 2012 the project received a new name - "Nizhny Novgorod Phoenix."

The governor supported the project. Over 50 organizations and over 100 Nizhny Novgorod residents have participated in "Seasons of Charity" during 12 years.
