Yakutia's leader to be named differently, in local language

Yakutia's Constitutional Committee approved the new title for the head of the republic. From now on, Yakutia will be administered by "people's governor." In the Yakutian language, the head of Yakutia will be called "Il Darkhan."

The new norm of the law will come into effect after the termination of the authorities of the sitting head of the republic. The press service of the President and the Government of Sakha Republic (Yakutia) said that the members of the Constitutional Committee considered propositions from people's deputies about the title of the supreme official of Sakha Republic (Yakutia) in Sakha state language.

As a result, it became clear that "Il Darkhan" would be linguistically and historically correct name of the supreme official, SakhaNews reported.

There were also other variants discussed for the title during the discussion: "darkhan" ("ruler"), aan Darkhan ("supreme ruler") and bagylyk ("head"). Those variants were cast aside in the course of the discussion. The draft amendment to the Constitution of Yakutia will be considered on June 8th at a session of the State Assembly. The new version of the law about the elections of the head of Sakha Republic (Yakutia) will also be considered at the session.
