Meeting of UNESCO Masterpieces on Olonkho Land to take place in Yakutia

The Second International Festival "The Meeting of UNESCO Masterpieces on Olonkho Land" will take place in Yakutsk, the capital of the Republic of Yakutia, on July 10-16. The festival will be held within the scope of the cultural program of the V International Sports Games "Children of Asia" and the All-Russian Sports Forum "Russia is a Sports Power."

The festival is initiated by the Ministry for Culture and Spiritual Development of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), the Autonomous Institution "Theater of Olonkho" and the Northeast Federal University named after M. K. Ammosov on behalf of the Institute of Olonkho.

Yakutsk and Ancient Olympia have recently become twin cities. The agreement was signed on the territory of the Temple of Gera, where Ancient Greeks used to conduct peace negotiations for the period of the Olympic Games.

The ceremony was attended by the governors of Greek regions and delegations from other twin cities of Ancient Olympia. Yakutia was represented by the chairman of the Greek community of the city, Ivan Panzatyev, first deputy ambassador of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) in Moscow, Yury Zabolev and boxer Georgy Balakshin, a winner of the Olympic Games in Beijing.

On July 4th, the delegation of the Ancient Olympia will pay a return visit to Yakutsk to attend the opening ceremony of the V International Sports Games "Children of Asia." As many as 3,000 young athletes from over 20 Asian countries are expected to take part in the Games.
